Catering for a Funeral: What You Need to Know

Planning a funeral is an emotional journey, and catering is often an essential part of the process. At Tobin Brothers Funerals, we understand the importance of providing comfort and support during these times, and that includes offering high-quality catering through our sister brand, Diamond Celebrations. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you navigate catering for a funeral.

Understanding Your Needs

Determining the Number of Guests One of the first questions to consider is how many people will be attending the funeral. A good rule of thumb is to count the immediate family and close friends and then add a percentage to account for additional guests. It’s always better to slightly overestimate to ensure everyone is well-catered for.

Choosing the Right Catering Package Diamond Celebrations offers a variety of catering options to suit different needs and budgets:

  • Sweet Celebration: A selection of sweets, tarts, and cakes – $17.99 per person

  • Sandwich Celebration: A selection of ribbon sandwiches – $17.99 per person

  • Silver Celebration: Sweets and ribbon sandwiches – $33.55 per person

  • Platinum Celebration: Ribbon sandwiches and hot appetisers – $39.60 per person

  • Diamond Celebration: Sweets, ribbon sandwiches, and hot appetisers – $48.95 per person

Each package includes a vegetarian option, and gluten-free options are available upon request. These packages also include tea, coffee, and napery.

How Much Food Per Person?

For transparency and ease, our packages are priced per person, however, our servings are generous, so if you’re concerned about big appetites speak to our team who can help you decide the right amount of food.

The Sweet Celebration and Sandwich Celebration both allow for 4 items per person, which depending on your attendees, might be more than enough or far too little, so it’s worth having a discussion to work this out for your family.

Both the Silver and Platinum Celebration options will give you 8 pieces per person, and the Diamond Celebrations package allowing for 16 pieces per person.

Again, the pricing is based on the serving size, but there’s nothing stopping you from getting a smaller or larger platter, and adjusting those serving amounts accordingly.

Catering for Dietary Requirements

We understand that dietary requirements are a significant concern and we can accommodate all guests. Diamond Celebrations can cater to special dietary needs at no extra charge. Whether it’s vegetarian, gluten-free, or specific allergies, our team is dedicated to providing delicious and suitable options for all guests.

If you’re unsure, call our Diamond Celebrations team to discuss your options, they welcome all enquiries.

Share Plates for Variety

For those looking to offer a variety of options, share plates are an excellent choice.

Each plate serves approximately 10 people and includes 40 pieces, ensuring there’s plenty to go around:

  • Hot Appetisers Plate: Beef burgundy pies, sausage rolls, polenta chicken parmigiana bites (GF), and more.
  • Vegetarian Hot Appetisers Plate: Panko and parmesan crumbed eggplant chips, pumpkin sage and ricotta rolls, and more.
  • Antipasto Share Plate: Marinated vegetables, cured meats, dips, and grissini.
  • Devonshire Tea Plate: Traditional scones with homemade raspberry jam and cream.
  • Seasonal Fruit Plate: A selection of seasonal sliced fruit.

Founded in 1934

The first funeral conducted by Tobin Brothers Funerals was for Ena Margaret Price in 1934. In its first year, the company conducted 53 funerals and after the payment of creditors and the collection of debts, it made a modest profit.
