An urn is a container designed to hold the ashes of a loved one after cremation. It comes in various materials, sizes, and designs, making it a meaningful choice for memorialising someone.
A Scattering Tube is a more portable and temporary vessel than a regular urn, designed to be used for scattering ashes, as opposed to being a long-term keepsake. Our Scattering Tubes selection features an array of designs, in both small and standard sizes, with all tubes being made of biodegradable paper.
Urns can be made from a variety of materials, including wood, metal, ceramic, glass, biodegradable materials, and more. You can choose the material to reflect your loved one's personality and your preference, as well as its intended usage. While there are Scattering Tubes made of biodegradable paper, there are urns made of more durable materials such as bonded marble, brass, or ceramic.
The size of the urn depends on the amount of ashes you have and whether you might be sharing amongst family members or different vessels or jewellery. Your Funeral Planner can help you decide which size is best for you.
Yes, we can help you personalise your urn. You can engrave the urn with your loved one's name, dates, or a special message. Some urns also allow for photo frames or other custom touches, such as an accompanying app, which you can further personalise.
Urns are relatively easy to care for. Simply dust them as needed with a soft, dry cloth. If your urn is made of metal, you can use a metal cleaner to maintain its shine. Make sure to let your Funeral Planner know if you are hoping to keep your urn outdoors or plan to split or scatter the ashes at any point.
Many urns are designed for both burial and display. Be sure to check with your Funeral Planner to see if it's suitable for burial if that's your intention. It’s okay to be unsure or undecided about the ongoing use of your urn, and your Funeral Planner can help you choose an option that will be most suitable.
Yes, you can transfer ashes to another urn. It's a delicate process, and we recommend seeking professional assistance to ensure it's done respectfully and correctly. At Tobin Brothers Funerals, we will arrange this for you. Speak to your Funeral Planner about transferring ashes. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please feel free to contact us. We're here to help you during this important time.
