Arrange a Funeral

Someone is Dying

Tobin Brothers Funerals can help you to arrange a funeral for someone who is nearing the end of their life.

Call our 24 hour Funeral Advice Line for information and assistance.

When Someone is Dying

When someone is dying, making funeral arrangements can become a part of the grieving process and a cathartic experience for both the person dying and their loved ones.

In many cases, the person who is dying may choose to be involved in their own funeral arrangements, or they may already have a pre-paid funeral plan in place. In other instances, you might find yourself in the position of planning the funeral if your loved one is unwilling or unable to do so.

Whatever your circumstances, our Funeral Advice Line staff can help to guide you through the process.

Caring for families for nearly 100 years

Planning Ahead

If your loved one has a life-limiting condition, their medical prognosis will likely indicate how long they can be expected to live.

It’s always easier to know the person’s wishes ahead of time, as it can be difficult organising a funeral without knowing these details and family members may have differing opinions about what should happen.

If your loved one has limited capacity, speak to their care team or consult their Advanced Care Plan/Directive for instructions if possible.

If you are still unsure and would like some help, please call our Funeral Advice Line for assistance.

Honouring their Wishes

If your loved one is willing and has the capacity to do so, it might be helpful to ask them the following questions:

  • Have you thought about your preferences?
  • Do you have an existing Pre-Paid or Pre-Arranged Funeral Plan?
  • Have you made arrangements for paying for your funeral?
  • Do you want to be buried or cremated?
  • Where would you like to be buried or how would you like your ashes to be kept?
  • Where would you like the service to take place? Will the service be religious?
  • How would you like the service to be personalised to celebrate your life? E.g. Flowers, music, vehicles, etc.

Statement of Wishes

Should you wish to complete preliminary arrangements, without financial commitment, you can do so by completing our Statement of Wishes booklet.

This booklet is a helpful tool for funeral planning, and can come as a relief for family members who find themselves in the position of having to plan a funeral.

Please return your completed Statement of Wishes via email, or post to PO Box 251, North Melbourne, Victoria 3051, and we will record your wishes in our Statement of Wishes database.

Which option is right for you?

Pre-Arranged Funeral

A pre-arranged funeral allows you to plan all of the preliminary arrangements of a funeral, without any financial commitment.

If someone is likely to die within the next few years, we recommend you spend time with your loved one, and download the Statement of Wishes booklet to advise family of your funeral preferences.

Pre-Paid Funeral

A pre-paid funeral, also known as a Fixed Price Funeral Plan, is an investment that becomes more valuable over time.

This makes our pre-paid funeral option a wise choice for anyone who is older or has a reduced life expectancy, and who wants to spare their family the financial and emotional burden of organising a funeral later when prices may rise.

If you are unsure which option is most suited to your situation,
please call our Funeral Advice Line any time, day or night.

The team at Tobin Brothers East Burwood handled the funerals of both my parents beautifully and respectfully. You can organise funeral details or do clothing drop offs at any site which is handy if unable to attend the service site. We had priests as chosen by Tobin Brothers and they have been great. Had some light catering the second time around and the food was all delicious. Great option for a more personal experience. Thank you.

From the time our father passed away to his funeral, Tobin Brothers in East Burwood were fantastic. A big thank you to Judith the funeral planner, Veronica the Celebrant, Mary Anne who looked after us at dads funeral and the team on the day. It went very smoothly and the guests loved the venue and food.

Michelle and the team at Tobin Brothers Burwood organised the funeral for our father who passed away this week. Michelle was beautiful and made the process completely stress free. Thankfully we don't have to organise a funeral every week, but if I did I would use these guys! Highly recommended.

Founded in 1934

The first funeral conducted by Tobin Brothers Funerals was for Ena Margaret Price in 1934. In its first year, the company conducted 53 funerals and after the payment of creditors and the collection of debts, it made a modest profit.
