Gary Martin Hassett (b. 31 Aug 1942), eldest son of Rita and Martin Hassett, died at John Fawkner Hospital in the early hours of August 03, 2025.
Gary was the older brother of John and Ian.
Gary was the father of three: David, Peter and Susanne (d: 1989). He was the grandfather of eight, the four children of David and Juliana: Lesia de Jonge (and her husband Mike de Jonge), Daniel Hassett (and his wife Alice Cole), Teresa Hassett (and her fiancé Juancho Ramirez) and Michael Hassett. As well as the four children of Peter and Monica: Abby, Anthony, Katelyn and Scott (living in PA, USA).  Gary was also the very proud great grandfather of two: Isabella and Lucas De Jonge.

 

Until his beloved Maureen’s death after 60 years of marriage last June, Gary cared for and loved Maureen with an intensity that is beyond description. Ultimately, he missed Maureen more than he could bear and has now gone to be reunited with her.

Gary's funeral will be held at St Augustine's Church, Harrick Rd, Keilor Park at 10:30am on Friday 22 August 2025. Burial will follow at Northern Memorial Park at 12:30pm.
