All Souls Day Masses

All Souls Day Masses

There are a variety of ways to find comfort when you are grieving. While it’s important to find the method that works for you, a great number of people find spirituality or an organised religion offers them an unmatched source of solace.  Indeed, religion and the belief in “something more” can help those who are grieving loss find comfort, hope and optimism in regards to the future.

According to Harvard Health Publishing, “Religious or spiritual beliefs may also help by lending larger meaning to a loved one's life and death. For some, the belief that a loved one is enjoying the spiritual riches of heaven or preparing for the next turn of the wheel through reincarnation can be comforting. Believing your loved one helps guide you in this world or that you will be reunited in another place after your own death can help you continue to feel connected with the person.”

Specific rituals - such as the celebration of All Souls’ Day - can help give meaning to a loved ones’ life and death.

All Souls’ Day - which directly follows All Saints’ Day - is a solemn, annual celebration in the Roman Catholic Church that offers participants the opportunity to commemorate the departed, and to remember and pray for the souls of those in purgatory. It is believed that once these souls are perfected, they will enter heaven.

Throughout the day, rituals include the offering of Requiem Mass for the dead, visiting the graves of those no longer with us, and reflecting with love on the lives of lost loved ones.

All Souls Day Masses are held at a number of Cemeteries in October/November each year. These provide Roman Catholic families with an opportunity to attend Mass to remember their loved one.

Here at Tobin Brothers Funerals, we understand All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day mark two very special celebrations for Catholics.
